1、The reason why rubber products are hazardous to health
For natural latex products, water-soluble proteins in natural rubber latex are the cause of latex allergy. Water-soluble proteins are generally analyzed and confirmed by the colorimetric method, which is relatively simple.

For other rubber products, the accelerators, antioxidants and other rubber additives used are different due to different materials and uses. To identify the cause of ACD (abbreviation of "Allergic Contact Dermatitis", which means "allergic contact dermatitis"), it is necessary to analyze and confirm what kind of rubber additives are contained in rubber products, and also to confirm whether the patient has a positive reaction in order to confirm We will analyze and confirm what kind of rubber additives are contained in rubber products, and check whether the patient has a positive reaction to confirm whether ACD is the cause.

2. Systematic identification of health hazards of rubber products
To systematically identify whether rubber products are hazardous to health, the main tasks include patient consultation, skin testing of patients (skin contact test for ACD, injection test for latex allergy, conducted by dermatologists), skin testing of sensitized animals (skin contact test for ACD, conducted by toxicologists), information on products (provided by manufacturers), chemical analysis of the cause rubber products (conducted by analytical chemists), which is a process that involves various departments. This is a system of cooperation between various departments. According to the procedure, the causes of the cases of health hazards of rubber products are identified cooperatively.

3、Some cases of health hazards of rubber products
The analysis and investigation of antioxidants and accelerators in commercially available rubber gloves for home, work and medical use mainly included phenol antioxidants such as styrenated phenol, dithiocarbamate (DTC) type accelerators and amines, but did not fully include thiuram type accelerators.

For the cases of ACD caused by rubber gloves, the examination results showed that zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate, zinc diethyl dithiocarbamate, zinc dibutyl dithiocarbamate, zinc ethyl phenyl dithiocarbamate, dimethylamine and diethylamine, and piperidine of DTC-type promoters were the main allergenic chemicals causing ACD in rubber gloves.

For rubber shoes, thiol-based benzothiazole (MBT) type accelerators are the main allergenic chemicals for ACD.

For industrial rubber gloves and agricultural boots, p-phenylenediamine (PPD)-type antioxidants are the major allergenic chemicals for ACD.
