Environmentally Friendly Accelerator TBzTD

TBzTD, as one of the representative products of environment-friendly accelerators, is a more ideal substitute for the Tyuram type accelerators.

In 2001, the accelerator TBzTD (tetrabenzylthiuram disulfide) was developed by the former Uniloy Corporation in the United States to replace TMTD, TMTM, TETD, and other thiuram products, because TBzTD has a large molecular weight, high melting point, and is not easy to decompose, and although a small amount of dibenzylnitrosamines are produced during vulcanization, it is a non-carcinogenic substance that neither volatilizes nor dissolves in water because of its large molecular weight. At the same time, because TBzTD products are non-polar, they will not produce spray frost when used in rubber vulcanization.

TBzTD, which originated from foreign markets, has been continuously optimized by several production plants in China since 2007, and can be used as a substitute for similar foreign products.  

TBzTD is an acidic super speed type vulcanization accelerator, the vulcanization speed is lower than TMTD, other physical properties are almost the same as TMTD, and now it has become a new product with great potential for development of Thuleum type vulcanization accelerator.

TBzTD has been developed as a safe secondary amine-based accelerator, and according to published literature, N-nitrosodibenzylamine is not carcinogenic. It does not release carcinogenic nitrosamines during vulcanization.

Characteristics and applications of TBzTD
It can be used in NR, SBR, EPDM and NBR systems as a fast primary accelerator or secondary accelerator, and is a valuable co-accelerator in EPDM.
It is safer and longer anti-coking time than TMTD using process.
No frost spraying phenomenon, no pollution, no discoloration caused.
Used with DETU in CR vulcanization process, it can be used as a vulcanization delaying agent. In thiol-modified chlorobutylamine vulcanized with ETU, TBzTD is used as anti-coking agent, and it does not affect the vulcanization speed.
With better processing safety and longer coking time than TMTD, it can be used as the main accelerator or co-accelerator for fast vulcanization of natural rubber and SBR, and sometimes it is also used as PVC rubber vulcanization inhibitor.
When used in the manufacture of food contact articles, it is necessary to refer to the provisions of category 4 in BgVV XXI. There is no provision in FDA for contact with food.
