The chemical name of accelerator M is 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole, abbreviated as MBT, CAS No. 149-30-4, and the molecular weight is 167.25. Pale yellow monoclinic needle like or flake crystalline powder with slight odor and bitter taste. The melting point is 170-181 ℃. Soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, ethanol, sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate and other basic solutions.

It can rapidly promote the natural rubber and the general sulfur and thio compound rubber. Its critical temperature of thio is low, and it is easy to disperse in the rubber without pollution. It is mainly used for manufacturing tires, tapes, rubber shoes and other industrial rubber products. In IR, NR, SBR, NBR, HR and EPDM systems, it is a main acidic curing agent with medium curing speed. When combined with other curing agents such as willing DM and willing TMTD, it can achieve higher activity.
