China's import share of Vietnam's rubber increased in the first eight months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to VC Electronic News.
Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan are the top five rubber suppliers to China. With the exception of Malaysia, rubber imports from each of these markets increased significantly from the same period in 2022.
In the first eight months of 2023, Vietnam was the second largest rubber supplier to China, with exports amounting to more than 970,000 tons; a 16.7% increase from the same period last year; and exports valued at US$1.3 million, a 6.6% decrease from the same period last year.
Vietnam's rubber accounted for 18.23% of China's total rubber imports, up from 16.6% in the same period of 2022.
During this period, Vietnam was China's fifth largest natural rubber supply market, with production reaching 124,630 tons, down 14.2% year-on-year; the value was US$135.94 million, down 34.3%.
China's natural rubber imports to Vietnam accounted for 7.37% of the country's total natural rubber imports, down from 9.16% in the same period in 2022.
In the first eight months of 2023, Vietnam was the second largest supplier of natural and synthetic rubber to China. Among them, Vietnam's exports to China amounted to 846,060,000 tons, up 23.4% year-on-year, while the value of exports amounted to nearly US$1.15 billion, down 41.9% year-on-year.
