Zinc stearate is a white powder, insoluble in water. It is mainly used as lubricant and mold release agent for styrene resin, phenolic resin and amine-based resin. It also functions as vulcanizing active agent and softening agent in rubber.
Zinc stearate is used as a release agent because of its good compatibility. It is mainly used as a release agent for thermoplastic and thermosetting products such as polyurethane foam and unsaturated polyester. The mechanism is that when the two components are mixed and injected into the mold cavity, zinc stearate will precipitate as a gel and migrate to the surface of the part as it cures, creating a highly mold-releaseable film at the interface of the mold cavity.
