The latest data showed that in May 2023, Vietnam exported a total of 45,600 tons of natural rubber, down 15.4% year-on-year from 53,800 tons last year and up 29.9% YoY from 35,100 tons in April.
In January-May 2023, Vietnam exported a total of 209,400 tons of natural rubber, down 17.7% year-on-year from 254,600 tons last year. Among them, exports of standard rubber amounted to 147,700 tons, up 2.9% year-on-year; exports of smoke flake rubber amounted to 22,300 tons, down 13.2% year-on-year; and exports of latex amounted to 44,700 tons, down 22.7% year-on-year.
Taken together, in May, Vietnam exported 121,400 tons of natural rubber and mixed rubber, an increase of 5.7% year-on-year over last year's 114,900 tons, and an increase of 31.2% over April's 92,500 tons year-on-year; and exported 86,000 tons to China, an increase of 23.4% year-on-year over last year's 69,700 tons, and an increase of 36.7% year-on-year over April's 62,900 tons year-on-year.
Vietnam's natural rubber exports in May rose from April, but compared to the annual data, still in the export of low value period. Vietnam's production areas continue to increase the cutting area, cutting in late May advanced to 7-8%, the output returned to about 50 percent, as factories are resuming work, and actively grabbing glue, lifting raw material prices. And China's downstream market demand is weak, the actual overseas finished goods weak, and the depreciation of the RMB exchange rate, the domestic traders position and replenishment costs are high, the enthusiasm for overseas shipments purchasing is not high, so the incremental increase in Vietnam's natural rubber exports is relatively limited. Vietnam's natural rubber exports to China part of the proportion increased to 70.8%.
