The production process of synthetic rubber can be roughly divided into three parts: the synthesis and refining of monomers, the polymerization process and the post-processing of rubber. The basic raw material of synthetic rubber is monomer, and the commonly used methods for refining include rectification, washing, drying, etc.
Aggregation process:
The polymerization process is a process in which monomers are polymerized under the action of initiators and catalysts to form polymers. Sometimes one polymerization device is used, sometimes multiple are used in series. The polymerization process of synthetic rubber mainly uses two kinds of emulsion polymerization method and solution polymerization method. At present, styrene-butadiene rubber, isoprene rubber, butyl-propylene rubber, butyl rubber, etc. are used in emulsion polymerization.
Postprocessing:
Post-processing is a process in which the polymerized material (latex or glue) is finally made into finished rubber through the steps of removing unreacted monomers, coagulation, dehydration, drying and packaging. The coagulation process of emulsion polymerization mainly adopts the addition of electrolyte or polymer coagulant to destroy the emulsion and precipitate the colloidal particles. The coagulation process of solution polymerization is mainly based on hot water coagulation. The colloidal particles precipitated after agglomeration contain a large amount of water and need to be dehydrated and dried.
