Hexamethoxymethyl melamine resin is used as the main binder for rubber, and it is compounded with an additive carrier to form a methylene giving body binder. It is used in combination with methylene acceptor and serves to make rubber bonded to skeleton materials such as steel wires.
As the main cross-linking agent for coatings, hexamethoxymethyl melamine resin has the most excellent cost performance and is most widely used. It is soluble in both water and organic solvents, which is conducive to the preparation of high-solids coatings and water-based coatings. It has the characteristics of high reactivity, good adhesion, good compatibility, anti-hydrolysis, high gloss, good storage stability, excellent fluidity, etc. It is used in the field of coatings such as automotive paint, coil, iron printing, industrial paint, wood paint, but also in the ink industry, paper industry, leather industry, etc.
Meanwhile, hexamethoxymethyl melamine resin is also the main raw material for the production of dense amine polyol resin, however, its source is relatively single and its quality has been unstable, which restricts the sustainable development of downstream products.
There are two main methods for the preparation of hexamethoxymethyl melamine resin by intermittent method: a two-step method, i.e. the first stage of addition reaction between melamine and formaldehyde in alkaline medium to produce hydroxymethylated intermediate; the second stage of etherification reaction between the hydroxymethylated intermediate and methanol in acidic medium; this method is mostly used in domestic and foreign production processes. The other is the one-step method, which is the hydroxymethylation reaction and etherification reaction are carried out in the same equipment from the beginning to the end, first adjusting the alkalinity, and then adjusting the acidity, because the stages of the reaction can not be carried out under suitable conditions, so that the product quality can not meet the requirements of the production of downstream products and is not widely used by manufacturers.
