General Administration of Customs recently informed the public that on May 24, under the supervision of Weifang Customs under Jinan Customs, 143 tons of smuggled imported waste tires were returned from Qingdao Huangdao Port through customs transit.
In February 2022, Weifang Customs received instructions from higher-level deployment, an enterprise from South Korea imported three batches, a total of 143.07 tons of old tires for inspection, customs officers by field inspection and analysis, and sent to the relevant departments to identify, these waste tires belong to China's explicit prohibition on the import of solid waste.
It is understood that the smuggling of waste tires into the country are mainly used for two purposes: one is to crush, the rubber powder, waste steel reuse, this treatment will cause significant pollution to the environment; the other is to be reused after tire retreading, will cause major hidden dangers to driving safety.
