Precipitation Silica and Vapour Phase Silica
2024-03-28

Silica is broadly divided into precipitated silica and fumed silica according to the production method.

There is no difference between silica produced by fumed silica and silica produced by precipitation method, the chemical name is silicon dioxide. However, fumed silica is produced by combustion of silicon tetrachloride and air, and the fineness reaches more than 1,000 mesh, while precipitated silica is produced by adding sulphuric acid into sodium silicate. The fineness is only 300-400 mesh. The fumed silica produced by the fumed silica method is expensive and not easy to absorb moisture. It is used as matting agent in paints. Precipitation silica is cheap and easy to absorb moisture.

Precipitated silica external properties, bonding, anti-aging, anti-caking, coagulation, controlled release, carrier, flow aid, improve printing effects, mechanical effects, special additives, reinforcing thermoplastics, rheology control, whitening. Hydrophobic silica is easily soluble in oil and is used as a reinforcing filler in rubber and plastics to improve the mechanical strength and tear resistance index of the products. Due to the different manufacturing methods, there are some differences in their physicochemical properties and microstructures, thus their application fields and application effects are also different.

Introduction of precipitated silica
Precipitated silica, also known as hydrated silica, light silica, chemical expression is usually written as -mSiO2-nH2O, white highly dispersed amorphous powder appearance, also processed into granules as a commodity. Proportion of 2. 319 to 2. 653, melting point of 1750 degrees. Insoluble in water and most acids, when absorbed in air, it becomes concentrated fine particles.
Soluble in caustic soda and hydrofluoric acid. Stable to other chemicals, resistant to high temperature decomposition, non-combustible. High electrical insulation, large porosity, large internal surface area, good water absorption, non-toxic.
The hydrophobicity and hydrophobicity of silica is easily soluble in oil, used as a rubber reinforcing agent, can improve the mechanical strength of the products and tear index. Due to different preparation methods, the physical and chemical properties and microstructure of silica have certain differences, so its application fields and application effects are also different.

The difference between precipitation method silica and gas phase method silica:
Firstly, it is the difference of production process.
Secondly, it is the difference of the wide range of adaptability.
Third, is the particle size and the use of the effect of the difference.
Fourth, of course, the most important is the price, the difference in enterprise costing.
